Lip completed his medical training at the University of Western Australia, graduating in 1995 with degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Following a further 10 years of surgical experience in General and Vascular Surgery, including 5 years of specialist training in Plastic Surgery at Royal Perth, Sir Charles Gairdner and Princess Margaret Hospitals, he was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the beginning of 2007.

He has completed post-fellowship training in hand, breast, craniofacial and cosmetic surgery at the Universit├Ąts Spital Z├╝rich in Switzerland, the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in the United Kingdom, the Mannheim Beauty Clinic in Germany, the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Scheveningen Cosmetic Clinic in the Hague, and the Aesthetic Medical Center in Ghent, Belgium.

His special interests include hand surgery and microsurgical perforator flaps in addition to cosmetic facial surgery, head and neck surgery, all aspects of breast aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, microfat grafting and liposculpturing.

Lip is actively involved with the teaching of surgical trainees, hospital residents and medical students and he has been the principal investigator in a number of surgical publications.

He is a Consultant Specialist Plastic Surgeon at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Osborne Park Hospital, and he is also the Supervisor of Training at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
