Mark completed medical training at the University of Western Australia in 1993, graduating with degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

After a further 10 years of postgraduate training in Western Australian and Queensland and meeting stringent examination and training requirements of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, Mark obtained the qualification of Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2003.  Mark was then selected as a fellow in Craniofacial and Cosmetic Surgery at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in London.  He completed a further 12 months post-fellowship training in craniofacial, cosmetic and facial trauma surgery in London and Birmingham.

Mark established a private practice in Perth in 2005 and was a founding member of the Western Australian Plastic Surgery Centre. He is also a Visiting Medical Officer for the WA Country Health Service at Albany Health Campus, servicing the Great Southern region of Western Australia.

Mark is regularly involved in undergraduate and postgraduate surgical training. He is also interested in melanoma management and in 2010 assumed the role of Clinical Director of the Western Australian Kirkbride Melanoma Advisory Service (WAKMAS).
